A Little Halloween Fun...

So - I knew this year would be difficult to beat my Katy Perry costume from last year...but we did it!  Meet the NEW One Direction (for those of you who are not connect with pop culture or middle school students - One Direction is a Boy Band loved by many)...

Everyone needs a proper ID badge for work...

The students may not have seen the humor in our take on "One Direction" but they definitely knew who we were trying to be :).  We handed out stickers to our fans in the morning at school that said - I (heart) 1 D...

One young lady said, "No thank you, I'm a Belieber."  (Meaning she likes Justin Bieber...She really had the Bieber Fever...)  She was so serious about this too.  Just typing this makes me laugh.  I had the All for One Fever when and 98 degrees when I was growing up...

We also had one young lady soooo excited, when we asked if she wanted a sticker her response was - "HELL YEAH".  Then she turned bright red and realized what she just said to a teacher.  PRICELESS!

Just a routine photoshot at school...

I'm pretty sure we could sell our shirts for big money in the middle school...

...And Some Upcoming Events.

Here are some upcoming events in the area put on by some amazing indivduals.  Hoping you will be able to check them out...

New EMAIL ADDRESS...

Before we get to the meet of the blog here, some of you may notice the date on the blog (10/21) and wonder why I wouldn't have sent out an email update at that point...  Well hotmail was not so friendly to me and would no longer let me use my contact list.  So, I put my big girl pants on (and with the help of my tech gal - Bea) and have transitioned to a new email.  Here is the new email address for Team Vogel...

TeamVogelvsCancer@gmail.com

Now...Please enjoy the post :).

Girl's Weekend...

Everyone needs a weekend with friends... maybe a girl's weekend... maybe a guy's weekend... maybe a co-ed weekend.  Whatever your preference, it is important to surround yourself with fun-loving people who know how to pack!  Oh, and have a really good time.
Picture
These Ladies know how to pack. No they did not stay for a week - just 2 nights, but they had clothing options for all weather, games and CARROT CAKE! (Zoe had a hard time smiling for the photo with the cake on the floor...)
Picture
We ventured out to see what kind of trouble we could round up and somehow found ourselves looking at the bottom of our margarita glasses.

As our journey continued, we made our way to Lanesboro and I found the most adorable cow charm.  I've always wanted a pet cow...  I may not have a pet cow, but I did get a super cute charm with Edith on it.  (These are pictures of the cow cards - helping one pick out the perfect cow.)
Picture
After a full nights sleep, we ventured out to a winery to do some wine tasting (at Four Daughters in Spring Valley). We also received a map of MN featuring 40 different wineries (I plan to visit them all :)).

...A little white... a little red = AMAZING!
Picture
On our way home from the winery - we spotted a rainbow and chased down a picture of it. It was one of the largest (thickest) rainbows I've ever seen. The amazing part - my mother-in-law (Mary) say the same rainbow in Winona at the same time :).
Picture
What better way to end a great weekend - pumpkin carving. Although it caused some stress for some...designing...cutting... I think they turned out! (And they got me in the Halloween Spirit!)

Babies and Puppies in Costumes...

After the pumpkin carving on Saturday, I've been in the spirit.  I started looking online for costumes and found myself in love with baby and dog costumes...  Just for the record my original searches were for adult costumes, but these were just too darn cute to pass up.  Please enjoy some of my top finds.

After chatting with a good friend this weekend, here are some of the costume ideas we threw around...

-Vivian from Pretty Woman
-GI Jane
-A Life Guard (Thanks for the idea Cousin Cassie)
-A Lady Bug
-Goldilocks and the 3 Bears

No decisions have been made at this time, but I feel there is a good foundation built.  I hope all of you have put forth the proper planning for the big event :).  Stay tuned - it is going to be hard to beat Katy Perry from last year (some of my students at school still call me Ms. Perry).

Some Great Pics / Moments...

Alright - enough with the Halloween talk.  Here are a couple pictures from the Team Vogel Family.  Please help me welcome Mocha.  She is a fun - loving miniature Zoe.  I lost my heart to her the first and only time I met her.  And she is learning to drink from a Team Vogel cup - what more could we want.
Picture
And I would like to congratulate Joe (the gentleman below with a wonderful name) on his completion of the TC Marathon.  I truly admire your drive and determination. And... all done in true (Team Vogel) style.

...and a Scholarship.

Calling all students in grades 7 - 12 at Cotter (Winona, MN).  Take a moment to reflect and see if this scholarship is for you.  Here's the official information...  (Please feel free to share this too.)
The third annual Joe Vogel “Pay it Forward” scholarship will be awarded during Catholic Schools Week – January 26 – February 1, 2013. The selected recipient will receive $500 towards their Cotter tuition.  Please see the information below - how the scholarship came to be and how to apply.

Joe Vogel, Cotter class of 1996, was a devoted alum and community member. The Cotter community had a positive impact on Joe’s life – leading him to often share memories or stories from his time at Cotter. Cotter was part of his family. Joe passed away in August of 2010 from colon cancer. In the months before he passed, Joe organized the Team Vogel vs. Cancer Fundraiser, which raises money for Winona-area families dealing with cancer, cancer research and a patient fund at an area hospital. Joe will always be remembered for his smile, sense of humor and his efforts to “Pay it Forward” -- to give back to others.

Created by Joe’s Family, Friends, and co-workers at Frito Lay Inc., the Joe Vogel “Pay it Forward” Scholarship Fund has been established. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Cotter Student who upholds and lives the spirit of “Pay it Forward”. The award will be applied directly to their Cotter tuition.

To apply for this 2013-2014 scholarship, student applicants are asked to:

1) Submit a one page essay explaining how they “Pay it Forward” – give back to others.

2) Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher and one letter of recommendation from a community member. Letters of reference should explain how they can attest to the student’s efforts to “Pay if Forward.”

Students should turn in the essay and letters to the Advancement Office no later than December 2nd, 2013. This scholarship opportunity is available to ALL Cotter students grades 7-12.

If you have any questions, I invite you to contact me at mesadowski@cotterschools.org or by calling me at 507-453-5102. I hope you all encourage your child(ren) to consider applying for this wonderful scholarship. Having known Joe personally, I can truly imagine how pleased Joe would be with the efforts of many of our students to "Pay it Forward" and how happy he would be to be able to continue to "Pay it Forward" to Cotter students in this way.

Signing off for the night and sending a hug to all.  Make the most of the each day and don't forget to plan a girl's weekend... a guy's weekend... a co-ed weekend of FUN!  And... Make sure you pack!
-Rach

    ...

Joe Vogel began his battle with cancer in 2006. He became a leader in his community and a hero among his friends and family. He made it his personal mission to help in the fight against cancer. His wife Rachel is carrying out his dream to help families dealing with cancer and to find a cure for this disease.
