Thoughts and Happenings for the Week from the desk of Rachel Vogel…

It was a wonderful weekend full of friends, family, many good laughs, a really long card game (where a few family members cheated), and too much good food.

One special lady had a fabulous weekend herself – she really seems to shine on this holiday and she wanted to send out her own Easter Greetings.

Although it was a great weekend – I am trying to process and get through this coming week.  Joe’s Birthday is on Friday.  We always preferred to have Birthday weeks instead of days.  So here’s to the first day of your birthday week Mr. Joe.  We could never keep presents from each other – so we would give our gifts the day we bought them…maybe we would hold out one or two days (actually more like one or two hours).

The only gift – surprise – I was ever able to keep was Joe’s 30th Birthday extravaganza.  I told Joe I wanted to take him to Chicago for his birthday – but little did he know 20+ friends and family would be there to surprise him.  It was one of the best days and by far one of my favorite memories – it’s hard to believe that I can’t make new memories this year with Joe…I have to hold tight to the ones I have.

Happy Birthday Joe!  Hope your birthday brownies (cake) are as good as the ones your mom makes.  May all your birthday wishes come true - 143.

Registration Forms-

Registration Forms are up on the website now.  You can download and sign – up for the Women’s Softball Tournament, Men’s Softball Tournament, Kickball Tournament, (The Homerun Derby Form will be Coming Soon), and you can sign up for the 1 mile / 5K Race online.  I challenge you to get a team together – get involved – or share with others.  Watching all the events last year, and participating in the kickball tournament – it was definitely a fun time for all.

Rachel’s Thoughts for the week :)…

I know I put myself out there and share my life, thoughts, and struggles.  I do this for many reasons – good therapy at times, a way to let others know where I’m at, to keep Joe / Team Vogel alive in all of us, and hopefully it will help others find the strength to face up to one of the hardest challenges I have ever been faced with – continuing to live without my best friend.

I know there are many people who support Team Vogel and read this blog.  I may not know all of you, but I appreciate your support.  If you are out in the community and happen to cross my path – please take a moment to introduce yourself.  I do care and appreciate when people do this – I promise I don’t bite.

Cancer SUCKS – and rarely do I see anything good surrounding it.  This weekend I realized one good thing – I’ve built relationships / friendships with many that I would have never known had my life not gone in this direction.  (Although I am thankful for all these new friendships – I still think Cancer SUCKS!)

I was sent a pretty cool card the other day and here is the quote from the front of the card.

“Heaven is to be at peace with things.”

I know Joe is there.  I just hope to be there someday too.

The golf outing has been filled with 28 teams of 4.  Thank you to all who took a moment to create a team – gather some friends and family – sponsor a hole / team - and get involved.  If you did not have an opportunity to get a team in – we are currently considering doing an Early Bird Tee Time on Saturday, May 14th.  Please contact Jeff Hubbard at (507) 313-9612 or TeamVogelGolf@hotmail.com if you have any questions or want to learn more about the Early Bird Tee time.

Golf Shirts Order -  We will be placing an order for Team Vogel Golf Shirts.  The shirts will be a red collared golf shirt, with the Team Vogel logo on the left breast.

Cost - $28.00

Sizes – Both Women’s and Men’s sizes are available (S – 4XL)

We will have the shirts available the week before the golf outing and will have the pre-ordered shirts at the event.  Please note – we will only be taking orders for these (we will not have stock.)

I am still working to contact all the families that have been selected to benefit from our fundraising efforts.  I wish my path did not cross theirs for this reason – but it is a true honor to meet each of the families.

Life:

I always like to share some thoughts of my own too, along with the updates.  This past fall, I took a trip with the gals to meet up with our friend in Kansas City.  It was an awesome time and it showed me I could still smile - have fun – and enjoy things.  This past weekend – a friend and I packed up and headed out to KC again.  (I had the chance to stop and see my grandparents on my way too - which was really nice.)

It was refreshing to get away, the weather was wonderful (85 degrees) and the company rocked like always.  Thank you to my friends who always help me have a good time and smile – if we are at a conference – baking – or watching a movie :).  Here are a few classic pictures from the weekend.

What a Weekend!

What a Weekend…

It has been a busy weekend.  And I am excited to announce – the Families have been selected for the 2011 Team Vogel vs Cancer Fundraiser.  It breaks my heart to hear the stories and journeys each family is taking on, but their strength shines through!

Strength is my word for the Fool’s Five this year too.  Strength in numbers, support, working towards a common goal and the strength it took for many to complete the race.  It is always overwhelming to be a part of this event.  This year was tough – for the first time when they ask all the racers who have not battled cancer to take a knee – I didn’t get to see Joe standing beside me.  He was definitely there though – Team Vogel will always be there.

Couple Notes:

Website –  We updated the website and changed some things around to make the navigation a little easier.  You can now place your arrow over the main menu items and a drop down menu will appear.  Please email us– if you can’t find anything – at teamvogel@hotmail.com.   Thank you to Miss Biggs for all her help with this – she has had to deal with me a lot.

Cemetery – I know many people go out to visit Joe and love to leave him things.  Please continue to do so.  I just need to let you know, the cemetery staff did post a note in church bulletins that things will be removed.  I do not know the exact wording, but basically we can have one plant hanger…I just want to let people know.  I understand where the cemetery is coming from, but this is a tough thing – things that are left there mean a lot to people.  So, please do as you see fit but understand the things may be removed.  I am trying to think of a creative way to use that one hook to the fullest :).

Golf Outing – The Golf Outing is FULL.  Thank you to everyone who has signed up and supported this new event.  If you are still interested in golfing, we are considering an Early Bird Tee Time from 7am – 8am.  If you would like more information on this – please email Jeff at TeamVogelGolf@hotmail.com.

One last thank you to the Team Vogel Board for always being there to help plan, provide advice and step to the plate.  Thank you!

I hope everyone has a great week.

Love - Rach

    ...

Joe Vogel began his battle with cancer in 2006. He became a leader in his community and a hero among his friends and family. He made it his personal mission to help in the fight against cancer. His wife Rachel is carrying out his dream to help families dealing with cancer and to find a cure for this disease.
