Beer...

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Joe's B-day Brew Review on Thursday.  It was a blast.  A special thank you to the last moment set-up crew, all the pourers, the ice crew, to the Legion, Midtown, Fifth Street Liquor, HyVee, to the beer groupies - Deb, Karen and Ed, my go to lady...Mom, and everyone else who had a hand in making the 1st annual Brew Review a success.

...and I hope some of you sampling were able to find a new brew of choice.

...and a Birthday

Today is Joe's 34th Birthday.

Birthdays are hard for me.  I've shared this in the past.

...It was a time to surprise Joe with something...head out for dinner with the families...maybe have a cocktail or few...whatever we did - it was always one of the best times...

I am still struggling trying to find a way to celebrate this day without Joe...Last year I thought it would be a good idea to run a 1/2 marathon.  In true Rachel fashion - I actually ended up running 13.2 miles for I didn't realize a 1/2 only consisted of 13.1.  After I did that last year - I swore there was no way I would run that far again.

Well - a couple months ago (when my body had finally forgotten how far this distance is), I got to thinking...I can do it again.  I can make it .  So today - I took off this morning to run my second 1/2 marathon and this time I only ran 13.1...Good News - I MADE IT!

I would have never made it without my running sidekick - Sam and a good friend - Adam who jumped in with us.  Thanks guys for running with me.

After we finished, I got to thinking...this is no way to celebrate a birthday - this is just plain CRAZY.  So, Sami and I tossed around some ideas...

...next year I will be celebrating Joe's 35th Birthday with a run on a beach, followed by lounging in the sunshine with a good book in hand (maybe a fun drink too).  Now this sounds like the appropriate way to celebrate :).

Happy Birthday Mr. Joe!

Sending my love - Rach

Rachel, that was beautiful, and it brought tears to my eyes. The love you two shared is never ending and so beautiful! Joe would and is so proud of you and for all you are carrying on, in his honor and name! May God be blessing you and yours, always! Thank you, again, for accepting us into your family of love, hope and support! We are so honored!

Wow. Inspirational, as always. Oh, I think I'll just run 13 miles. Without training. And kick butt. You rock. But I agree it's time to find another way to celebrate. Beaches and cocktails sound way more celebratory than running 13 miles. 13.1 miles. :) Wherever you and whatever you're doing, Joe will be there and who doesn't love beaches?!

The wind certainly did not help, you would think Joe would have helped us out with that one. He was probably having a good laugh. It was wonderful to join and I knew you would finish the whole time, but I was glad to share the experience. Although next years idea sounds better!
